This year the Sutton Runners 10k enjoyed its second year at the new venue at Nonsuch Park, Cheam on Sunday 11th May. The day was cool and windy, however the rain stayed away for the duration of the race. Despite the course being relatively flat, the head wind provided plenty of challenges to new runners and veterans alike. Once again the race sold out early as it has for the past 4 years. Many Surrey clubs turned up in force with some clubs using the race for part of their club grand prix.
This year the race was sponsored by Chiltern Health Centre
who provided goodies for finishers and free massage at the end. Runners also received a memento Sutton Runners “snood” with a list of multiple ways to wear it. Proceeds from the race are supporting a Carshalton based charity, the Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders http://www.diamondcentre.org.uk/
Leading the field was John Kettle of Herne Hill Harriers with a time of 33:42 followed closely by Kieran White from Hercules Wimbledon AC at 33:45 and Stuart Major from South London Harriers who finished in 34:07.
For the ladies, Lisa Harris from Croydon Harriers led the way with a time of 38:16 followed by Amy Aronson from Thames Hare & Hounds with a time of 38:36. Third for the ladies was Samantha Ludlow-Taylor from Serpentine RC with a time of 39:29.
