Introduction

Sutton Runners meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and various times on Sundays

Tuesday nights are our quality nights, so after a good warm up there will be a track session or a hill session or road reps all under the close supervision of our 5 coaches, followed by a gentle warm down. These sessions are not just for the elite runners – we all do them – at our own pace.

The Thursday runs tend to be around 5-6 miles with various groups running between 6-10 minute miling. Experienced Club members will ensure that newcomers are warmly welcomed and will be matched to a group of their own ability. Good companionship in running is the aim of the Club.

On Sundays we meet and run various routes with our training groups.

From April to September the Club organizes a Handicap series held on the first Tuesday of the month, around a 1.8 mile loop. This event creates a great sense of friendly rivalry within the Club; it is also very useful for monitoring how the summer training is progressing. A trophy is presented to the overall winner at the A.G.M.

Ladies Running

We are very proud of the numbers of lady members at Sutton Runners with the women often outnumbering the men on Club nights. We have a Ladies Captain, Andrea Francis, who actively encourages women of all ages and abilities.

Club-Standard Awards

The Club runs an award scheme based on racing times. Elite, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are given for distances from 10K up to Marathon in all age groups for men and women. The Certificates for the awards are signed by the Club President and Secretary and handed out on Club nights to warm applause by the other members.

The Yellow and Black vest of Sutton Runners is always very prominent at local races with numbers usually up in the 20’s. Race secretaries often write and thank us for our large attendance, it has even been printed on the official results.

Sutton Runners represented Surrey in the UK Athletics Grand Prix Final held at the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham on 15th September 2002. The Men's team came 6th and the Ladies team 4th.

Sutton Runners Christmas Party 2006 – Zizzi – Sutton

On 22nd December, 37 Sutton Runners went along to Zizzi in Sutton for a three course meal, and quite a few drinks.

Some of the few hard-core amongst us went along to Long Island afterwards for a couple more drinks (including champagne and shots!!) and a bit of dancing.

Below are pictures showing how “merry” we all were!

Chinese karaoke night 2006

Here are some pictures of some Sutton Runners letting their hair down, and putting their vocal chords to good use at a Chinese Buffet and Karaoke Night held in Morden. 25 of us ate, drank, ate some more, drank some more and sang and danced along to such classics as "You're the One That I Want", "Ironic", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft".

Barbecue

Barbecue & Rounders Match August 2002

At Sutton Runners it is definitely not all work and no play. We have our Annual Dinner, which takes place at various venues. This year it was a Dinner/Dance held at The Junction, Holiday Inn, Sutton. In August we hold a family barbecue and rounders match at Horton Country Park. We have a post-marathon get together and drinks for members' birthdays, curry nights and occasional breakfast runs; any excuse to get together really. Our motto is "A Club that plays together stays together!"

Newsletter

Yellow Pages

To keep us informed of all running and social events we have Sutton Runners Yellow Pages - the Club magazine. It is usually 40 pages long, is published quarterly and consists of race reports and times, forthcoming events, President's Warblings, Secretary's report, Coaches Corner, jokes page, recipes, press cuttings and many other items of interest. This is eagerly awaited every quarter and many feel it to be the backbone of the Club.
