Changes to Sutton Runners Grand Prix Series Trophy
In 2013 we replaced the Grand Prix trophy as it was formerly known with a new trophy called ‘The Road League Cup‘.
1) Why replace the Grand Prix? – The Grand Prix is run over 10 designated events from April to October with one of them a marathon of the individuals choice. We ask that individuals take place in a minimum of five events to qualify, last year no one did more than 4 so a lack of interest probably because we never publicised it and the qualification rules are not that clear, so we need to change to something that is simple and easy to understand.
2) There are 7 road league events in the year from May to August, 6 excluding our 10k these are the Richmond Half Marathon, Dorking 10, Richmond 10k, Elmore 7, Elmbridge 10k and Wimbledon 5k. To qualify for the cup we propose that you have to take part in 3 events. Performances in these events are given age graded % scores which is contained on all published results. The winner of the cup is the person who has made the biggest improvement during the course of the road league series, so it will work the same as the handicap series. Another benefit is that it will encourage people to take part in the Road League as the club get points and competes against other Surrey clubs.
First winner of the new Road League Cup, based on improvements made througout the year was Kevin Lusignea.
