Sutton Runners Club Handicap 2016
From May to August the Club organizes a Handicap series held each month around a 5k (3.1 mile) loop at Nonsuch Park. This event creates a great sense of friendly rivalry within the Club; it is also very useful for monitoring how the summer training is progressing. A trophy is presented to the overall winner at the A.G.M.
The key changes this year are:
We are hoping that this will be a fairer scoring system and should lead to a competitive competition.
The Handicap fixtures are on the following Thursdays:
- 19th May
- 16th June
- 21st July
- 18th August
We will meet at 19:00 in readiness for a 19:15 start. Runners will be set off in intervals.
A full list of the current race times can be found here
Rules and Scoring
WE ARE ASKING RUNNERS NOT TO WEAR A WATCH, ANYONE WHO DOES SO WILL NOT BE AWARDED ANY POINTS FOR THAT EVENT
Points are awarded for (a) taking part (b) making improvements to times:
Points per event 10 per race, up to a maximum of 40 available for taking part.
There will also be extra Points for making the following improvements to base times.
A base time will be set for all runners that take part in the handicap this will be set based on at least two runs/races. If there are no run/race times that we can use to set a base time, you will be awarded a total of 15 points in your first event and this time becomes the base for the remaining events.
In order for an accurate base time to be calculated, if you intend to compete in the Handicap, please run a few parkruns in the months before it.
Extra Points awarded as follows:
If you run your base time you will be awarded 60 points.
For every second quicker than your base time you will be awarded an extra point, up to a maximum of 60 points. For every second slower than your base time you will have an extra point taken away. This way the points awarded for your run time will be between 0 and 120.
base time 24 mins = 60 points
23 minutes or lower will achieve 120 points
24.59 will achieve 1 point
25 mins or higher no points
Prizes and Presentations
There will be separate Ladies and Men’s trophies awarded this year. Your best 3 scores out of the 4 races are used when calculating the final results and positions.
We will publish race times shortly after the race, and points scores sometime before the start of the next race.
The winners will receive their trophies at the club awards evening later in the year.
FINALLY…DON’T FORGET, NO WATCH!!!
The route we are using in Nonsuch Park has been measured by Hugh Jones who has also measured our own 10k route and is certified as accurate. We are therefore considering using the handicap for our Standard Awards, though this has still to be agreed by the committee.
The Ewell Road, A232 brings you into the park via the Cheam Gate entrance. The meeting point is the car park 100m after the Park entrance on your right.
Postcode for your Sat Nav: SM3 8AL – the postcode is as close as we can get it, so please use the map as well.
