Sutton Runners Guidelines for Club Marathon Places
Subject to confirmation, each year there will be opportunities to enter a Marathon reserved for members of Sutton Runners.
The places are drawn at the Sutton Runners AGM.
Please do not enter any of the draws if you do not have full intention to run.
Opportunity 1. VLM ballot place
In order to enter the ballot, you MUST comply with the following four rules:
1. Rejection letter or email from the official London marathon entry site.
2. Assisted at the Sutton 10k as confirmed by the race director
3. Taken part in at least one Cross Country and one Surrey Road League event (excluding Sutton 10k) in the calendar year prior to the draw.
4. Be a fully paid up, first claim member for a minimum of one year prior to the draw.
Post scripts to rules:
- If the number of names in the draw are less than VLM allocation, the remaining places will be allocated on the following basis:
Rule 1 does not apply and the club will re-draw the vacant places on rules 2 – 4. Thereafter if we still do not have enough names, then rules 3 – 4 apply and the draw will be re-advertise and re-drawn. Otherwise it is open to all members as per rule 4.
- There will be a reserve for main ballot place if names exceed ballot places. Only people meeting the rules and conditions above can be reserves ( see notes below for reserve place information).
- Members who won a SR ballot place the previous year cannot enter the ballot the next year.
Opportunity 2. VLM Volunteer place.
Reserved for Sutton runners members only who volunteered at VLM with the club the year the draw is taking place.
If there are no names in the draw for the volunteer place then the place will be entered in the main ballot and main ballot rules apply.
There will be a reserve for volunteer place if names exceed volunteer places.
Opportunity 3. Milton Keynes Marathon
We have one FREE place for the Milton Keynes Marathon.
To enter this ballot, you must be a fully paid up, first claim member for a minimum of one year.
VLM PLACES: FAQ
Do I qualify to enter the marathon draw?
Please see criteria above
How do I enter one or more of the draws?
For the VLM ballot places or Milton Keynes, please email your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org
For the VLM volunteer places, please email email@example.com
When do I find out if I have a place?
The draw takes place at the club AGM which usually takes place late November / early December. If you are not present, the results will be in the minutes and you will also be notified of the draw results separately by the secretary.
How do I register my place with VLM ?
The club secretary will register you as a runner on the VLM console (both ballot and volunteer places) soon after the draw and an automated email to your SR registered email address will be generated by the site. You need to follow the instructions on this email to register your details with VLM and make payment where applicable. The closing date to do this is usually mid to late January. If you don’t meet this deadline the place will be lost. Please inform firstname.lastname@example.org once you have completed the registration process.
What happens if I am selected as a reserve?
If one of the members selected in the draw subsequently decides they are not going to be able to run, before they register their place, it will be transferred to the reserve. Once a ballot place has been allocated to a runner, according to VLM rules, the place remains with that runner, not the club, and therefore is then unable to be transferred to the reserve.
What happens if I get injured and not able to run in VLM?
Once a ballot place has been allocated to a runner, according to VLM rules, the place belongs to that runner and not to Sutton Runners. VLM rules regarding deferring your place to the following year apply in this case – please see details on the VLM website. In the interest of fairness to all club members, we ask that you do not enter the club draw if you are unlikely to be able to run in the VLM that year.
Are there any exceptions to the club rules?
Please contact the committee if you feel there are any special circumstances surrounding your ballot entry. The committee decision is final.
