Sutton Runners raise over £2,000 for local charities
Heather Hunt, Fundraising and Volunteer Manager for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) said, “The British Heart Foundation is thrilled that the Sutton Road Race has raised £1170 for the nation’s heart charity. Running is a great form of cardiovascular exercise and this event, now in its second year, is becoming a firm favourite with many people. It’s always a joy for me to see local clubs like Sutton Runners taking up the challenge of organising an event on this scale.
Everybody who played a part, whether a runner, a marshal, or supporter, deserves a huge pat on the back – we can never thank people enough for the amazing things they do for the BHF. With more people likely to die from heart disease than any other illness, the funds raised from events like this are so important to us.”
Jo Bell from The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity explained that the money would go towards supporting cancer patients and the pioneering research done at their centre. The Royal Marsden based in Sutton is a world-leading cancer centre that makes life better for people with cancer and through research strives towards a future without it.
Nicole Hammond-Preskett from The Chiltern Centre (the event Sponsor) and Phillip Graham-Clare (Race Director) handed over the cheques.
